The Role

We’re looking for a Principal Data Engineer to provide strong leadership and play a key role in shaping data solutions that deliver real impact for our customers.

Our future Principal Data Engineer will have a background in event-driven architecture and be comfortable working with evolving technologies and systems actively developed and expanding, and will embrace the challenge with a collaborative, open-minded approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the team: Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to a team of data engineers, implementation engineers and QA. You’ll inspire the team and foster a collaborative culture of excellence. Substantial project experience is required.
• Coordinate technical delivery: Work closely with Delivery Lead, Product Owner, and Architect to align technical tasks with the programme plan and leverage Xfuze platform. You’ll analyze requirements, write LLDs, break down the work into stories, and orchestrate its delivery with the team.
• Be the technical owner: Serve as owner of the implementation of solutions using Xfuze. You’ll own the full project lifecycle, from initial implementation, testing, documentation to release and transition to support, ensuring all solutions meet high standards for scalability, reliability, and data quality.
• Provide broad technical oversight: This role isn’t about being the ultimate technical expert in a single area. Instead, it requires a comprehensive, high-level understanding of data engineering, project management, systems knowledge, cloud, releases, etc.. While your focus will be more on planning, design and guidance than on daily coding, you must be able to dive into any part of the platform to troubleshoot, code, understand technical complexities, and guide the team effectively.

Your Knowledge & Experience

• 7+ years experience in Data Engineering/Architecture (or similar).
• Strong leadership 
• Excellent communication skills. Should be client facing and able to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Highly collaborative. Confident to work with clients at senior level and any team member to delegate, coordinate, etc.. whilst remaining approachable and respectful.
• Broad knowledge of different technical areas (DevOps, Engineering, Architecture, Various Datastores, etc).
• Strong proficiency in SQL & Python.
• Experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• Data warehouse, insights and analytics with Big Query or else
• Familiarity with event-driven systems and scalable architectures. 
• Data pipeline/ETL Development, building ingestion pipelines that produce scalable data products as outputs for analytics.  
• Orchestration frameworks such as Dataform, Airflow, and GCP Workflows.
• Cloud platforms, especially GCP services such as GCS, Cloud Functions, and Dataproc.
• Familiarity with containerization and IaC tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Worked within an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc).
• Previous experience in the retail domain is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
